Healthy Homes Grant Now Accepting Applications

New Program Coordinator Daniel Swann will help connect eligible households with funding for home repairs, accessibility modifications, and safety upgrades.
A safe, accessible home is about more than four walls and a roof. It's the foundation for independence, health, and connection to the community.
Living Opportunities is now accepting applications for its Healthy Homes Grant Program, which helps low-income individuals and families in Jackson and Josephine counties who have a household member with an intellectual or developmental disability (I/DD) make essential home repairs, accessibility modifications, and safety upgrades.
Improving Health, Safety, & Accessibility
To help more people learn about this opportunity and successfully navigate the application process, Living Opportunities recently welcomed Daniel Swann as Healthy Homes Program Coordinator. Drawing on his background in construction, residential repair, housing, and community service, Daniel works one-on-one with participants, helping connect eligible households with funding that improves health, safety, accessibility, and quality of life.
Daniel explained, "A damaged walkway, inaccessible bathroom, failing roof, or inadequate heating system is not simply a property issue. It can affect a person's safety, health, comfort, dignity, and ability to remain connected to their community."

Bringing the program into the community
The Healthy Homes Grant Program is designed to help eligible households make repairs that allow people to remain safe and independent in their homes.
Approved projects may include:
- Wheelchair ramps
- Grab bars and bathroom modifications
- Heating and cooling system repairs or replacement
- Window and door replacement
- Flooring improvements
- Stair repairs
- Other accessibility modifications and safety upgrades
A new ADA compliant ramp and railing made the approach to this home safer and more accessible.
While many people assume the program is limited to emergency repairs, Daniel says its purpose is much broader.
"What excites me most about the Healthy Homes Grant Program is that it connects housing conditions to health, safety, independence, and quality of life," he says. "The program can address accessibility barriers, unsafe flooring, inadequate heating and cooling, deteriorated roofs, poor indoor air quality, and other conditions that may prevent someone from safely using or remaining in their home."
Experience That Makes a Difference
Daniel brings an uncommon combination of skills to the role. Before joining Living Opportunities, he worked as a licensed contractor completing residential repair and improvement projects. He also served with AmeriCorps and the American Red Cross supporting disaster response and community outreach, and he currently holds an Oregon real estate license.
That blend of construction expertise and public service makes him uniquely qualified to help families understand their options while guiding projects from initial assessment through completion.

Who Is Eligible for Funding?
The Healthy Homes Grant Program is available to low-income households in Jackson and Josephine counties where an individual with an intellectual or developmental disability lives in the home. Approved projects are funded at no cost to the participant and are intended to improve safety, accessibility, energy efficiency, and the long-term livability of the home. Homeowners, renters and landlords can qualify for funds.
Funding is currently available through June 2027, or until available grant funds are exhausted.
Help Us Spread the Word
One of the biggest challenges isn't funding. It's making sure eligible families know this resource exists.
"Anyone who is uncertain about eligibility should still contact us. They do not need to understand every rule or know exactly what type of work is needed before reaching out," Daniel says. "Our role is to listen, review the situation, explain the process, determine whether the request may qualify, and identify other resources when the Healthy Homes Grant Program is not the right fit."
